Species: Leafy Seadragon (Phycodurus eques), State‑protected South‑Australian marine fish Leafy seadragons live hidden in seaweed and seagrass along southern Australian coasts. Powerful ocean storms destroy the seaweed and seagrass beds where they hide. Ocean rubbish and chemical pollution make their home unsafe. Some people illegally catch leafy seadragons for home fish tanks. These sea dragons rarely survive in captivity because they need special live food. Dense seaweed and clean ocean water are critical for their survival. They rely on underwater plants for shelter and hunting. People can help leafy seadragons. Keep coastal waters free of rubbish and harmful chemicals. Do not disturb their seaweed habitats under the sea.
