The Little Leadbeater’s Possum

One night, when the moon was shining, a little Leadbeater’s possum woke up in her tree. She was very small and very curious. She climbed out of her tree hollow and looked at the big blue night. There were tiny yellow flowers below, and a little spider was sitting on its web. “Hello, Spider!” she whispered. The spider did not answer. It was too busy making its beautiful web. The little possum looked up at the stars and smiled. “I love my forest,” she said. “It is my home.” But then she noticed that there were not many old trees around her. She hugged her tree and said, “Please don’t cut down my home. I need my tree to live.” The moon shone brightly, like a little night-light. The possum curled up safely inside her tree hollow. “Good night, forest,” she whispered. “I will look after you, and you will look after me.” And she fell asleep under the stars.
