Star White, Star Bright

for the White Star-bush

Critically Endangered

By Harriet, age 8

I chose the Emerald Star-Bush aka White Star-Bush (Asterolasia asteriscophora ssp. albiflora) because it is beautiful and unique in many different ways. Some people don’t realise how important plants are. If the plants don’t survive, animals don’t survive and then we don’t survive! That’s why we have to help protect plants as well as animals. I live in Victoria and I wanted to bring attention to a plant that is critically endangered in my state. In my research on this flowering plant, I discovered that it is a subspecies only found in the Emerald-Avonsleigh region in the Yarra and Dandenong Ranges. I hope my artwork raises awareness to help it continue to survive.
