I chose to draw the Lord Howe Island Phasmid because it is one of the rarest insects in the world. People call it a 'tree lobster' or 'walking sausage' because it is giant and cannot fly. ​Sadly, black rats almost ate them all. Only a few survived on the Ball’s Pyramid, which I painted in the background. ​To bring this brave bug to life, I painted a bright watercolor setting and built its hard body using collage. ​I love this gentle giant. I hope my artwork reminds everyone that even the giant creatures deserve a safe home to live!
