Pygmy Perfection

I worry about our native Australian wildlife and our inability to see what we are doing to our planet. Mountain Pygmy Possums are federally listed as endangered. So we must stop and look deeper in to their eyes. As I look in to the eyes of this possum, I see confusion, helplessness and fear. I also see the question “What will you do to help?”. I see something too special to lose. I see something too beautiful to ignore. The Mountain Pygmy Possum is the only Australian mammal restricted exclusively to the alpine zone of New South Wales and Victoria. It is dependant on the insulation provided by snow for its survival. We must control feral animals who prey on this cute little fella. Do not use rat traps or poisons in buildings in areas of Mountain Pygmy-possum habitat. We need more research in to the moths which are a big part of this guys diet. Fewer moths means less available food. I want a world where I can live knowing that wildlife is not lost because we can’t solve how to live together without harm. I know that through my art I can make people stop and think, and that politicians and change makers can intervene before it is too late. This is why I paint!
