Our Colours Are Fading
for the Regent Honeyeater
Critically EndangeredBy Joshua, age 11
I chose the Regent Honeyeater because it is critically endangered. I think its such a beautiful bird with awesome white and yellow markings. I chose to do the background in black and white so the yellow stands out and to show how dull and faded the bush could become if birds like the Regent Honeyeater disappear. It is feeding Yellow Box flowers, sadly its habitat is also fading as more trees are cleared. I felt a bit sad painting this, especially with the cat in the background ready to attack the Regent Honeyeater. Cats are another threat to our native wildlife. I think we need to do more to protect endangered animals and their habitats, because I don’t want to see their colours disappear forever.
