Nature’s White Jewel

I chose Gardenia actinocarpa because it reminds me of my homeland, Sri Lanka, where we also have native Gardenia plants. I love its little buds because they look like tiny upside-down octopuses! Its pure white flowers remind me of peace and the beauty of nature. I learned that Gardenia actinocarpa is an endangered plant that grows in the rainforests of northern Queensland. I was surprised that such a beautiful plant is in danger because it grows in a small area and can be affected by bushfires. While I was drawing, I imagined this beautiful Gardenia growing beside a waterfall, surrounded by other plants. I hope my artwork helps people learn about this rare white jewel of nature. I would love to see more of these beautiful flowers growing safely, so children in the future can enjoy them too.
