Dhuri
for the Great White Shark
By Brianna, age 9
Dhuri By Brianna Hogben The great white shark is often feared, but I see it differently. It is a powerful and graceful animal that plays an important role in keeping our oceans healthy. Sadly, great white sharks are threatened by fishing, shark nets and fear born from misunderstanding. As a proud Biripi girl, the great white shark is my Indigenous totem. My ancestors lived in harmony with the sea, and I feel that connection every time I learn about this magnificent animal. My artwork shows my totem gliding peacefully through the dark ocean and reef. The symbols on my shark tell the story of its long journey, reminding me to keep moving forward with strength, courage and respect. I hope my artwork helps people see its true beauty and understand why we should protect it, so it can continue its journey through our oceans for generations to come.
